Arc of Yates of Penn Yan, NY is seeking to hire a full-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work in our Center for Lifelong Learning (Day Habilitation) program and support individuals with developmental disabilities to lead self-directed, meaningful lives. Direct Support Professionals earn $11.10/hr plus generous benefits. As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you provide training, assistance, and opportunities for people with disabilities to become active members of the community. You work in our Center for Lifelong Learning (Day Habilitation) program and ensure that the facility is clean and safe. You plan group and individual activities that assist each person to achieve their goals. With your working knowledge of each individual's Behavior Support Plan and safeguards, you implement plans and keep detailed documentation. You perform as a classroom aide, provide supervision on transportation routes, and train on supported work job sites. Throughout all activities, you demonstrate effective teaching techniques and model appropriate communication and social behaviors.

Additionally, you support individuals with activities of daily living as appropriate. While supporting people with disabilities, you learn their individual differences in ability, personality, interests, learning, motivation, and likes and dislikes. You assess their needs, positively influence behavior, and provide skills that will all assist them in integrating into their community in the least restrictive environment. It is rewarding to see your work as a DSP pay off when the people you support achieve their goals.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to transfer individuals with or without mechanical supports
