PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To provide support and oversight for individuals participating in Vocational Services, including job coaching, skills training, assessment, counseling, intervention, and advocacy.

The Vocational Counseling process will begin with the exploration phase, which lays the foundation for employment planning and training. Planning results in a blueprint for the training focus/job search where an employment relationship is negotiated to meet the needs of the job seeker and potential employer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:.

  • Provides within the work setting, vocational, personal counseling, and education support as necessary to enable successful participation in the work environment by offering guidance, suggestions, alternatives, etc.
  • Completes vocational habilitation plans focused on individualized career goals.
  • Maintains up-to-date files for assigned individuals.
  • Pursues and encourages most integrated employment opportunities possible for individuals on caseload.
  • Provide job development and coaching for both paid employment and volunteer opportunities.
  • Attends training programs to enhance, acquire and develop knowledge of issues related to individuals and/or vocational employment programming.
  • Assists in maintaining cooperative relationships with all service providers and community partners to ensure integration of services and prevent duplication of efforts. Maintains a working knowledge of community programs, services and resources.
  • Utilizes a variety of job coaching techniques to meet the participants' and vocational placements' needs, to include: identification and analysis of work to be performed, aiding the participants in mastering job duties, ensuring that work performed by participants meets vocational placement expectations, documentation of progress.
  • Serves as an advocate for the individual in situations which they request or require assistance.
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation in accordance with regulation including daily notes, monthly summaries, time studies etc.
  • Responsible for providing transportation, bus monitoring, and/or quality support of individuals, at or between job or agency sites, as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree preferred. High school diploma and two year experience which demonstrates ability and aptitude to provide direct care to participants in Vocational Services.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work under all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Position requires the ability to lift and move 50lbs. Ability to transfer individuals with or without mechanical supports.
  • Must maintain a current NYS driver's license that is acceptable to agency insurance.
